šŸŖ Ready to be part of the Flow?

Welcome to the Tribe šŸŖ¶

This is the first time Iā€™m creating a newsletter. Itā€™s homemade, created directly from my heart, the kind of newsletter Iā€™ve always wanted to read in Berlin! Itā€™s not perfect, but then again, who is?
In this first edition, Iā€™d like to introduce you to my Canadian friend John, whom I met on Facebook two years ago. We connected because John helped me learn more about shooting in a studio! šŸ™ƒ John and I are both Pisces with Taurus ascendants, and we both live in Wedding. Naturally, we became good friends, and Iā€™m excited to share his photography work with you!

Howā€™s living in Berlin different from living in Montreal?

Berlin has a unique effect on those who come here, especially artists. Thereā€™s a freedom, a tolerance, an openness that allows art to be dangerous, to be alive in a way that is increasingly rare. Itā€™s a city that gives you permission, to create without justification, to reinvent yourself, to exist freely. And then thereā€™s the diversity. Iā€™ve spoken more Spanish in Berlin than in my entire life in Montreal. Iā€™ve lived in two neighborhoods here, both predominantly Turkish, and I love the feeling of stepping outside and hearing five languages before I even reach the cornerā€¦ itā€™s a constant collision of worlds that keeps transforming me.

What is one thing you think the world should know about Berlin?

Many imagine Berlin as a city of endless parties and hedonism, but what often surprises visitors is its deep sense of ease. On a weekday afternoon, people lounge by the canal with a bottle of wine, friends play pĆ©tanque or ping-pong as music drifts through the air. A cinematographer friend once asked me, ā€œIs everyone on vacation?ā€ But thatā€™s Berlin! It embraces the in-between moments, creating space for living beyond productivity. Despite its history of reinvention and chaos, the city has held onto something precious: the freedom to pause.

How has living in Berlin changed the way you approach life?

The words that come to mind are: transformation, reconstruction, and perhaps most importantly, reunification. A German friend once told me that Berlin itself is still searching for its identity, and perhaps thatā€™s why it attracts those of us on a similar journey. But what Iā€™ve come to realize is that the search isnā€™t always about becoming something new and sometimes itā€™s about reuniting with the parts of ourselves that we had lost along the wayā€¦In a city that was once physically divided, I feel there is an unspoken energy of reconciliation: between past and present, between contrasts, between contradictions. And I think that energy seeps into the people who come here. For me, Berlin has provided the space, the solitude, the encounters, the long walks in order to reunite with forgotten aspects of myself. I arrived this time with more maturity, a deeper sense of spirituality, and an awareness of the fluidity of identity. Berlin has deepened my sense of self and has also made me feel younger.

Your top 3 favorites places in Berlin that not enough people know about?

  • Black Lodge (Neukƶlln): A semi-hidden bar that feels like stepping into Twin Peaks, with deep red curtains, a chevron floor, and an atmosphere thatā€™s both cinematic and intimate.

  • CafĆ© Pfƶrtner & Julius (Wedding): CafĆ© Pfƶrtner, inside an old bus depot, has a cozy, creative energy, while Julius offers a refined, seasonal Ć  la carte brunch with ingredients sourced from small farmers.

  • Weser 58 (Neukƶlln): A nostalgic bar I used to live above, with dim candlelight, great music, and the lingering scent of lilies on the way to the WC. šŸ˜‰

How has Berlin influenced your photography?

Itā€™s solitudeā€¦ Itā€™s long walks. The way the city reveals itself in fragments: never all at once, never fully. Berlin has brought me back to my roots as a fine art student, where I worked intuitively, letting the streets dictate the project rather than imposing a structure on them. Thereā€™s a certain rhythm to wandering, to following the pull of an image rather than chasing a predetermined idea. My aesthetic has become more stripped down, more analogue in spirit, even when working digitally. I think Berlin has reminded me that photography isnā€™t just about seeingā€¦Itā€™s about listening.

PIECE OF WISDOM: Being, Feeling, Doing Enough

I often hear people say they donā€™t feel enough. Of course, that resonates with what I felt all my life. But why do so many of us feel this way? Feeling half-empty, chasing time, feeling stuck in the past or living in a future we definitely canā€™t control? Like many, childhood wounds shaped me. School taught us that we were never enough unless we performed. We were always compared to others, and then social media made it even worse. First, it was grades, then followers, likes, and comments took over. The competition between me and others. The competition between myself and others started to feel heavier and heavier. I was constantly seeking self-worth in achievements, relationships, and successā€¦I was hoping to find a place in society where I belonged, where I felt accepted as I was, but it never filled the void inside me. Luckily, this strategy, seeking validation outside of myself, never truly worked in the long run. Those years of feeling a lack of love forced me to find it within.
Over the past years in Berlin, through deep self-exploration and countless therapy sessions, Iā€™ve got to learn that my soul isnā€™t defined by the outside world. To be honest, Iā€™m still searching for answers, and the more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

ā

ā€œNo one is you, and that is your powerā€

Dave Grohl

I feel enough when I disconnect from my phone and connect to my heart, when I meditate and reach those pure moments of presence, when I take action from will rather than need, when my energy is high, when I share with others, when I have deep conversations, when I am in nature, when I fully trust the Universe, reminding myself that I am supported and guided and when I let go of controlā€¦

Journaling questions:
- In which areas of your life you feel you are not enough? Why?
- If you didnā€™t have to prove your worth, what would you do differently in your life?
- How would your life change if you truly believed you are already enough?
