Hello June š
Hope youāre all doing well! ā¤ļø
In this edition, Iām happy to give the floor to Ahmed Eid, a Palestinian musician whose songs weave together themes of identity, resistance, hope, and freedom. He is also the founder of the Palestine Music Space in Ramallah (Palestine), a free creative space dedicated to nurturing emerging talent through learning, collaboration, recording, and artistic experimentation. His work reflects the power of music not only as a form of expression, but also as a tool for community and cultural resilience.

Meet Ahmed Eid, an x-Berlin-based musician, producer, singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist living between Ramallah and Marseille
Ahmed Eid is a Palestinian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and cultural storyteller whose work explores themes of origin, resistance, hope, and freedom. He weaves Arabic musical traditions with global influences into a distinctive and deeply personal sound shaped by his life between Palestine and Europe.
He is also the founder of Palestine Music Space in Ramallah, a free community music hub and an act of cultural activism dedicated to nurturing the next generation of Palestinian artists by providing access to rehearsal rooms, recording facilities, mentorship, and creative resources.
What does it mean for you to make music as a Palestinian artist in todayās context?
Making music as a Palestinian artist today means, for me, finding a way to look at the world through different eyes in the middle of an unjust world. It becomes a tool to create a parallel reality. One that is more just, more human, and more hopeful than the one we live in. For me, making music creates a space to live in that parallel reality and to share it with listeners, inviting them to dream again, and hopefully to turn that imagination into movement and action for change.
Whatās your music about? What are the messages you try to convey?
Writing music is a way of documenting both my personal experiences and the collective experiences of my community. It reflects life in a region shaped by decades of imperial and Zionist oppression, and explores the tension between how we see the world and how the world sees us.
My most recent album āāmin ghazzeh la baghdad, min haifa la beirutāā, which I am currently touring with my band, was written during the ongoing genocide in Palestine. It emerged from three emotions I was carrying at the same time: grief, anger, and hope, serving as a way to bear witness to, and process, this extremely difficult chapter of Palestinian life.
You created the Palestinian Music Space in Ramallah (Palestine). How would you introduce it to someone hearing about it for the first time? What happens inside the space on a typical day?Ā
The Palestine Music Space in Ramallah began as a teenage dream I had during the Second Intifada. I dreamt of a room filled with instruments like drums, bass, and electric guitar, where I could simply hang out with friends and live out the āteenage rockstar dreamā.
After years of experience as a musician and as a person, I decided to turn that vision into a real place for the generations after me. Today, it functions as a free creative hub where young musicians and bands can take part in workshops on songwriting, arrangement, production, and music management, join regular jam sessions, and work on recordings in the studio, which is active with daily creative production.
What does āactivismā mean to you in your work as a musician?
Activism takes many forms, and for me, music is the language I feel most at home in. It is the medium through which I try to amplify the realities of Palestinians and other oppressed communities, both in the songs I write and in the stories I carry.
It also extends into my work with the Palestine Music Space, where creating free spaces for young people is essential, spaces where they can exist, express themselves, and document their reality through music, while also being able to imagine and live with a more hopeful perspective.
For me, making music creates a space to live in that parallel reality and to share it with listeners, inviting them to dream again, and hopefully to turn that imagination into movement and action for change.
What kind of legacy do you hope this space will leave for the next generation?
The most important and beautiful thing for me is that the Palestine Music Space has become a living community with a shared identity and a shared sense of hope in a very difficult world. First and foremost, itās about young people having access to such a space and just being in it, using it, and growing through it.
Over time, I hope it leaves a legacy of what is possible when people create free, independent spaces for each other, built from the community, for the community, and independent from imperial/colonial structures. I already see how much impact it is having on the music scene in Palestine, and I hope that continues to grow and inspire similar initiatives elsewhere.
