Hello beautiful soul,
We are in November, a month of transition when we are called to deeply transform and prepare for winter, a time of rest and let go. It’s a very spiritual time to go within, to see behind the veil and to realize that endings are a natural part of life. It’s a month for clearing, so we can make room for future growth. What are you ready to let go of?
In today’s newsletter, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Gabo Amezcua and sharing a selection of lovely events and workshops for you to explore.

Meet Gabo Amezcua – a Mexican anthropologist, artist, musician, body therapist, kambo facilitator, temazcalero and founder of Psychedelic Society Berlin, working at the intersection of ancestral healing traditions, psychedelic education, ritual practices and community building.
How has moving from Mexico to Berlin changed you as a person, and what have you discovered about yourself along the way?
I think Berlin has taught me to work from a place of authenticity. While most major cities around the world value money, professional success, power, or social mobility, I feel that Berlin values authenticity, originality, and the ability to work from the heart. In this city, I was able to take everything I learned in Mexico and throughout my earlier life and turn it into my own path, my own form of expression, my own voice. Berlin is a great teacher of letting go of rigid structures. It asks us to keep reinventing ourselves and to give ourselves permission to change.
How can we learn from indigenous traditions without appropriating, romanticizing, or turning them into products for consumption? What have indigenous traditions taught you about how we relate to nature and one another?
I think we often approach Indigenous peoples from a misguided perspective. It is easy to imagine them as wise, mystical, or inherently pure, when in reality they are just as vulnerable as we are to the problems of capitalism: competition, abuse, violence, and struggles for power. These dynamics exist within Indigenous communities too. What sets them apart, I believe, is the importance they have sought to place on their relationship with nature. For many people, it is easy to adopt or romanticize Indigenous symbols and practices to appear more interesting or profound. But this misses the point: the heart of these traditions lies in a relationship with the natural world. Learning from them means reflecting on and transforming our own relationship with nature. If we borrow the symbols without doing that deeper work, we risk reducing their cultures to appropriation and performance.
As the founder and director of Psychedelic Society Berlin, you’ve helped create a community around psychedelic exploration. What do you think draws so many people to these experiences today?
I see psychedelics as doorways to loosening rigid patterns of thought and, by extension, rigid social structures. They can invite a state of mental entropy, opening up more chaotic, intuitive, and sensitive ways of experiencing the world. These contrast with the orderly, rational, and stable systems of what we might call a mental “patriarchy.” This capacity to disrupt familiar patterns can offer ways of responding to rigidity that feel especially relevant today. Anxiety, depression, and isolation can sometimes be rooted in inflexible structures and difficulty adapting, changing, or responding more intuitively to life. Psychedelics can open us to these possibilities. That does not automatically make us better people, but it may allow us to develop a deeper, more complex relationship with our own existence.
What do you wish more people understood about preparation, safety, and integration?
Following on from the previous question, I would say that getting something meaningful from a psychedelic experience involves both preparing for a potentially destabilizing process and allowing time afterward for integration, to regain our footing and make sense of what happened. Setting an intention and preparing physically and mentally can help us feel more grounded going into the experience. Integration helps us connect our psychedelic experience with everyday life. High doses, unnecessary combinations of substances, and chaotic settings may produce intense or fascinating experiences, but they can also increase the risk of psychological harm, including psychosis or lasting trauma. Sadly, people who take excessive amounts of psychedelics may develop paranoid or delusional thinking, believing they are prophets, that they perceive social and political patterns no one else can see, or losing their grounding in shared reality. In this way, while psychedelics are quite safe physically speaking, physical safety does not guarantee psychological safety. When familiar mental structures begin to unravel, we need grounding, support, and time to find our balance again.
In that temazcal, I cried out more than ten years of pain from the bullying I had endured. She told me, “All the pain you’ve had to go through will one day make far more sense to you than you can imagine.”
You host and organize Temazcal ceremonies. What does the Temazcal mean to you personally, and what first drew you to this tradition?
For me, the Temazcal marks the beginning of my spiritual path. I was 15 when I entered one for the first time, curious to learn more about our Mexica roots, having grown up in a rigid, conservative Mexican society. It all began with my first visit to an Indigenous community in the foothills of the volcanoes. I was there doing community service for high school, and unlike many of my classmates, who were fooling around and making fun of the whole experience, I was fascinated. The community welcomed me and invited me to take part in a temazcal ceremony with an elder, Doña Manuela. I had never met anyone so kind, or anyone who saw me the way she did: with genuine acceptance. In that temazcal, I cried out more than ten years of pain from the bullying I had endured. She told me, “All the pain you’ve had to go through will one day make far more sense to you than you can imagine.” That was the beginning of my journey.
The Temazcal is associated with returning to the womb of Mother Earth. What does this symbolism mean to you? What can people experience or discover within themselves through this ritual?
Perhaps this is a good way to bring the whole conversation together. I believe the world is facing an immense crisis because we are trying to shed 5,000 years of patriarchal structures, sun/light worship, and disregard for nature. We have abandoned intuition, femininity, sensitivity, and the beautiful magic of the night to retreat into “enlightenment”: light, civilization, order, productivity. But this has become profoundly unsustainable, and we know it. The Temazcal is a return to the source, to Mother Earth, where all the elements come together to create what is known as Atlachinolli: the meeting of the masculine and feminine spirits. The Temazcal holds a community within its womb, and in the anonymity of darkness, Atlachinolli renews the connection between water and fire, shadow and light, the feminine and the masculine, body and mind. In this way, the Temazcal sets in motion a profound process of inner transformation. The discomfort of that enclosed, dark space: the heat, the sweat, and the mud. cultivates resilience, mental discipline, a connection to our intuition, and a deep capacity for transformation.
